With its gentle hills, dense forests, and idyllic river valleys, the Bergisches Wanderland invites you to extensive hikes where you can fully enjoy nature.

Particularly noteworthy are the two certified long-distance hiking trails, the “Bergischer Weg” and the “Bergischer Panoramasteig.” The Bergischer Weg stretches approximately 260 kilometers from Essen to Königswinter, connecting numerous cultural and scenic highlights. The Bergischer Panoramasteig, around 244 kilometers long, offers impressive views of the diverse low mountain range landscape and leads through charming villages and historic towns.

In addition to these long-distance hiking trails, there are numerous shorter circular routes that are also well-signposted and suitable for day trips. The trails vary in difficulty, offering suitable routes for experienced hikers as well as families with children. Along the way, cozy guesthouses and traditional farm cafés invite you to take a break and enjoy regional specialties.

The “Auf dem Lindchen” observation tower rises majestically above the landscape and offers an unrivalled view of the surrounding hills, forests and villages. On a clear day, you can even see as far as the Rhine Valley and the Cologne Bay. Bringing binoculars is well worth it! Climbing the tower’s 134 steps is rewarded with a breathtaking panorama. The tower itself is an impressive structure that blends harmoniously into nature. Its architectural design and the use of regional materials make it a real eye-catcher. Around the observation tower, well-signposted hiking trails and rest areas invite you to linger. Whether you would like to go on a leisurely hike or enjoy a picnic in nature – you will find the perfect spot here.

The picturesque village was first documented in 1447 and is home to one of the five Colourful Churches (Bonte Kerken) in the Oberbergisches Land region. The village, only around 10 minutes by car from Nümbrecht, welcomes visitors with its unique charm and historic half-timbered houses, and offers magnificent views of the Oberberg landscape.

Engelbert Humperdinck already appreciated the merits of this idyllic place and is said to have found inspiration here for his famous fairy-tale opera “Hansel and Gretel”.

In 1969 and 1991, Marienberghausen was awarded gold in the nationwide competition “Our Village Should Become More Beautiful”. In addition, two of the many popular hiking and cycling trails in the Bergisches Land region run through Marienberghausen: the Half-Timbered Route and the Ridge Route.

The Protestant church is a well-known attraction in the region, as it is one of the few remaining Colourful Churches. The impressive late-Gothic wall paintings are over 500 years old and were discovered and uncovered around 1910. We will be happy to help you organise guided tours.
